Hi!  You all must have seen a TAT picture of a person who is going alone to somewhere and the background of the picture is of a bad weather. The winds are harsh and the road looks lonely. Many of the candidates ask me what should they do with this kind of pictures? Well, the first step is to identify the problem or the issue in the picture. What is the main problem? The main problem is that the weather is bad! No one could be seen on the roads, means very less people are out. Why? Because of the bad weather! Why the main character is out in the bad weather? Because he has to accomplish a task! The task could be related to the agricultural fields, college, school, office, medical problems of someone etc. The psychologist wants to see when problem occurs in life, are you determined enough to do your task (come what may). If you are willing to accomplish the task, that means you have the will, the determination, the confidence and the courage to do something. In these types of stories...

The following aspects must be borne in mind while attempting the SRT: Give your response to a situation in a methodical / step wise manner, which is brief, but complete in all aspects; e.g. if you see a road side accident, you must start by giving first aid (if available), followed by organizing transport to take injured person to hospital, then inform police authorities and lastly inform the next of kin of the injured person. Be realistic, and do not show illogical bravado or foolhardiness in your responses; e.g. fight alone with a number of hoodlums while returning from a late night movie show with your girl friend, or jump into a river to save someone, when you are told in the situation that you are a non swimmer. However, if your honour is at stake, then you can even sacrifice your life to protect it; e.g. if the hoodlums tell you that we will not harm you, if leave your girl friend behind and walk away. Points to be Borne in Mind while Writing TAT & PPDT Story I wish to share some views on Story writing during PPDT & TAT: (You get 30 sec to view the picture and 04 min to write a story on it) Let us begin with talking about how to observe the picture when it is shown to you: First look at the background, see the setting of the story, e.g. rural/urban, market place/ building, etc, then closely observe the foreground and see how many characters are there, what are they holding/doing and what kind of work is going on. Then ask yourself who I am amongst them, and what am I doing there. Relate closely to the main character chosen by you and give him or her, a name. You may not be able to write more than about 08 lines in the stipulated four minutes, out of which, write about 02 lines for what could have led to this scene, write about 04 lines on what is presently going on in the scene that you have perceived and write about 02 lines to say what was a logical outcome of the scene. Tips for SSB: The Service Selection Board is based on a very effective psychological approach. It is completely scientific and hence requires a candidate to be completely honest to himself. Despite several rumours, there are only two things a candidate needs to work on to get recommended. Be worthy of uniform. Do not fake your behaviours/ answers/actions in the SSB. The second point is self explanatory. You will be putting yourself in jeaopardy if you lie or fake about your personality in the SSB. It will more often than not come back to bite you. How to be worthy of the uniform? I am going to mention a few hobbies ad activities you can pick up 12–16 months prior to your SSB. Altering your personality trait takes time and it cannot happen overnight through some coaching centre. Make a list of your strengths and weaknesses.
